I had a written exam for my application for residency at one hospital, and interviews for the same hospital the following day. I ended up being shortlisted, and asked to go on duty for the week at their radiology department, along with two other applicants. I chose to go on duty October 1st to 7th, but so far, have not yet received confirmation for the duty week. The following day, I had my [...]

Nurse No-Duty

En My Nurses Notes Published 16 days and 22 hours and 31 minutes ago.

Oh boy! Good thing that I don't have to go to class this summer. I went to Xavier University to get my recommendation letter (which my CI did not give to me yet huhuhu, but it's ok ^_^) and I met some of my classmates and friends. They were just from duty and boy did they look so haggard and stress looking. Imagine 4 days straight of duty and on two days of those days you have to sleep late into the night to finish requirements for the next day. So you get to sleep at around 1:00 am and you have to wake up [...]

Meeting a Man on Jury Duty

En 40s Singleness-Dating in Your 40s Published 12 days and 4 hours and 4 minutes ago.

You know I wonder a lot where to meet men. Just recently I posted on that very topic. But jury duty? Definitely wouldn't have been on the top of the list for me. Then again, I did get called for next Tuesday. Maybe I should look it as an opportunity rather than an interruption in my work week! Thoughts?

Please Remind Me Not To Do This Again!

En Ripples from the River of My Thoughts Published 1 hour and 34 minutes ago.

A few days ago found me on an almost-cancelled night out with a few friends singing our hearts out karaoke-style! We had ate, we had fun, we sang in and out of tune, and we had loads of laughs. Now, the problem: I was on duty the night before and was on duty again the following day as someone was on leave for a convention... So, I had to cope with double the tiredness as well as an [...]

Duty Calls

“All the great things are simple, and many can be expressed in a single word: freedom; justice; honor; duty; mercy; hope.” – Winston Churchill Once upon a time there was a little girl who was born into some war-torn like land of albatross. She became familiar with the uncertainties of life and the precariousness of the all-consuming endeavor called living that underlies the most fundamental [...]

Weekly Evaluation

En My Nurses Notes Published 5 days and 16 hours and 33 minutes ago.

This week of duty may perhaps be the most exciting and memorable as compared to all the other rotations. This may be because of the fact that this week is the last time that we will have to sleep late at night for the following day’s requirements, wake up early in the morning to prevent being late and incurring extensions, and be stressed out from the day’s duty. But it was quite sad that instead of rejoicing we were reprimanded because we were not courteous to the patients and staff [...]

Excuse me? Did you say Drugs?

En Grim Angel Published 22 days and 21 hours and 28 minutes ago.

I couldn't help but laugh every time I remember this incident. I was walking along the corridor in the hospital one day when my duty mate asked me to tell her if our clinical instructor would be around because she would be able to do her drugs. Unfortunately for her, interns were also passing by and overheard our conversation and reacted to the word "drugs". They have misinterpreted our conversation and thought that my duty mate was asking me to be her look out while she take some recreational drugs. [...]

Much Adieu and Boo Hoo

En Kudos For Balance Fitness and Lifestyle Published 21 days and 16 hours and 26 minutes ago.

"The greater danger for most of us is not that our aim is too high and we miss it, but that it is too low and we reach it." - Michelangelo This morning at 2 am, Jerry was off to La Quinta, California for a two week "tour of duty" refurbishing a rental house. I say tour of duty because on these trips he works nearly around the clock except to eat, shower, and sleep. The man is a workhorse. This happens about twice a year when one of the Palm Desert area houses he oversees becomes empty. So it shouldn't be [...]
